Recently, I attended the annual conference of the Network for Research in Jewish Education, in Los Angeles. There, I participated in a session on principles of experiential education articulated by John Dewey in the first half of the twentieth century as applied to Jewish learning in contemporary settings of Jewish education. The presentation included a look at some project-based learning experiences at schools, anchored in “a Dewey-inspired perspective.”
BJE March of the Living: DEADLINE! Friday, November 14, 2014
Each year, BJE invites Jewish teens throughout Los Angeles to experience March of the Living, a life-transforming journey which fosters an enduring attachment to Judaism and to Israel. Joining thousands of teens from over 40 countries Los Angeles area teens commemorated Holocaust Remembrance Day in Poland marching from Auschwitz to the death camp in Birkenau. Traveling to Israel, teens observed Israel’s Remembrance Day for Fallen soldiers (Yom ha’Zikaron) and celebrated Israel’s independence Day (Yom Ha’Atzmaut), experiencing the joy and significance of Israel’s independence.
The Power of Apathy: BJE Impact
BJE Impact has been gifted a PSA created through a collaboration of teens and Holocaust survivors as part of the Righteous Conversations Project that speaks to the Power of Apathy, and, conversely, the power of ACTION. We hope you will watch it and feel inspired to say to yourself, "I WILL make it happen!" instead of "What difference will it make?"
