L'Dor V'Dor - Virtual Program for 11th and 12th Graders

On February 16, BJE launched L’Dor V’Dor: BJE March of the Living Edition, in partnership with Holocaust Museum Los Angeles (HMLA). The program will connect teens with Holocaust survivors via zoom for ongoing engagement.

The program is designed both to offer 11th and 12th grade students a meaningful service learning experience, and to offer isolated and vulnerable Holocaust survivors additional opportunities for connection while they remain quarantined as a result of COVID-19.

From February 16-April 9, cohort of teens will meet weekly with assigned Holocaust survivors to hear both their life stories, and their personal experiences of survival. The hope is that teens will gain a deeper understanding of Jewish community and life in Europe before the war, as well as a meaningful insight into how people persevere in the face of adversity. The program gives survivors the opportunity to reflect on the idea of their legacies.

“With COVID-19 preventing the International March of the Living from running its annual trip this spring, BJE March of the Living hoped to create a program that would offer high school juniors and seniors the very personal interactions with survivors that have been a hallmark of BJE’s Los Angeles delegation,” said Maya Aharon, BJE Director of Teen Experiential Education Programs.

Teens will participate in an opening training session focused on how to have meaningful conversations with Holocaust survivors. The survivors, in turn, have been well trained by the HMLA in using zoom and other technology to connect. In addition to their weekly group conversations with a survivor, teens will be asked to partake in personal journaling and reflection framed in Jewish values.

Space is limited and the program is almost full. Interested teens should apply immediately at https://www.tfaforms.com/4876846
