Jen Pugsley is an Outdoor Classroom Specialist at Valley Beth Shalom Early Childhood Center in Encino, CA, with thirteen years of both in-class and outdoor classroom experience. She is passionate about creating environments where children can slow down, find joy and develop empathy and confidence through creative, sensory outdoor activities such as gardening, nature exploration and risky play. She is trained and certified by the Outdoor Classroom Project in La Cañada, CA. She is a member of the VBS ECC Collaborative Learning Team, which represents and supports VBS educators in their teaching goals. She was a graphic artist for 20 years before becoming an educator, and is a very proud and grateful mom to adult daughters Jamie & Madeleine, who were enthusiastic and joyful “test subjects” on her path to this profession. Jen is beyond happy to be able to work outdoors and be known as the messiest educator at VBS.
